Learning to ride is easy with us

CBT Training courses in London

London Motorcycle Training provide Compulsory Bike Training (or CBT) from our Central London location.

What does CBT involve?

The CBT course involves five elements:

A. introduction

B. practical on-site training

C. practical on-site riding

D. practical on-road training

E. practical on-road riding

The five elements have to be completed in sequence, although the order of the exercises within the element can be varied. You will only

move on to the next element when your instructor is satisfied you have learnt the necessary theory and demonstrated the practical skills to a

safe basic level.

When all five elements have been satisfactorily completed, a certificate of completion, called the DL196, is issued. This is a legal

document which validates the relevant entitlements on your driving licence. It is important that the holder of a DL196 considers the following

points:

* a DL196 certificate validating a provisional moped or provisional motorcycle entitlement lasts for two years – CBT will have

to be retaken if both theory and practical tests are not passed within the two year certificate life

* for moped entitlement only, if you pass your car driving test whilst your DL196 is still current or complete a CBT course and

obtain a DL196 after passing your car test, the certificate is not subject to expiry, you will therefore need to keep your DL196 certificate

safely. Please note that this applies to mopeds only, for riding motorcycles as a learner the DL196 remains valid for two

years

Once you have your certificate you are advised to take additional training to pass your theory and practical tests and qualify for a

motorcycle or moped licence. You must take the DL196 certificate with you when you go to your practical test.

The other stuff you need to know

The CBT course is essentially good fun – do not think that you are doing a car driving test. The atmosphere will be very different to that,

you might even make a friend or two! Some students who do the course begrudgingly because they have to, have come back to the shop at the end

of the day surprised that they learnt something and enjoyed themselves.

The Motorcycle Theory Test & Motorcycle Practical Test

Once you have obtained your CBT certificate, if you wish to gain a full motorcyle licence (any category) you must first take the Motorcycle

Theory Test, do between one and four days training then take the Practical Test. We are contantly asked how much this will cost. Alot depends

on your ability and therefore how many days training you need – think about somewhere between £200and £750. Your way to a FULL

Full Motorcycle Training courses in London

London Motorcycle Training provide Full Motorbike Training from our Central London location.

What does it involve?

London Motorcycle Training do bike training differently.

Instead of selling you a training course to take your CBT on a Monday, and do your module 2 on a Friday, charging you up to £800 for

a bike licence, we do things a different way. A fast track course will suit some people if everything goes without a hitch. It does not

however, allow for failing module one, or something coming up in your life. We have found a lot of people have had problems getting money back

from training schools when things have changed in any way.

We work on a pay as you go basis which means that a student always knows where they are. Our pricing is very straightforward and

transparent.

This is how we do our training… All prices quoted are inclusive of VAT, bike hire, insurance, petrol, and helmet & glove hire.

  1. Book in for a Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) course as soon as possible. It will cost
you £130 on a weekday or

£140 on a weekend. We have good availability. It will take you
all day. You need both parts of a UK driving licence (provisional is

    ok). That means a paper
counterpart and with the photo card that came with it, or your passport if it is an older style
    licence.

  2. You need to be able to ride a bicycle and have a basic understanding of the Highway Code before you start.

Do your CBT on a geared bike if your intention is to get a licence on a geared bike. Taking a CBT on an automatic 50 still allows you to

ride a geared 125 if you are 17 or older.

  3. Book yourself a motorcycle theory test at your closest DSA centre at www.dsa.gov.uk. Search on Google for motorcycle theory practice. There are several sites offering free practice. This is

plenty to get you through. The closest centre to central London is near London Bridge.

Once you have your CBT and theory book in for 2 days training. This will cost £350. You have 3 choices.

-A1 Licence Do the test on an automatic 125cc scooter. You will be restricted to a 125cc scooter but will be able to

carry passengers, use motorways and remove your L plates. There is a minimum age of 17.

    -Staged Access Do the test

on a 125cc geared bike. If you are 17 and you pass this test you will be able to take the 400cc test at 19 years of age. This will allow you

to take the 600cc test at 21.

-Direct Access If you are 24 or over you can do the test on a 600cc geared

motorcycle. Having passed this you will be licenced to ride any motorcycle straight away. You will need to do both modules on this bike. At

the end of the 2 days training you will have become familiar and probably friendly with your instructor, you will talk to him about where you

are up to. This is the point where you book your module 1 test.

  4. Module 1 – Test charge is £15. This is the off road element of the test that has the swerve test and emergency stop.

On the small bikes you can take yourself to the test centre. If you need to hire a bike for this, that can be arranged. If you are going on a

large bike you will need to be taken by an instructor. This can take half a day, ie £125. After passing module 1 you will need to decide

if you are going to book your module 2 test or book a day’s training before doing the module 2. Again, this is something you will want

    to discuss with your instructor.

  5. Module 2 – Test charge £75. This is the old fashioned bike test- out on the road with an examiner following you for

around forty minutes, telling you where to go via an intercom. As with our module 1, you can go to the test centre yourself on a small bike,

but if you are doing the test on a big bike you will need an instructor to take you. Again this will be £125 for half a day.

We have tried very hard to simplify the road to getting a bike licence here, if there is anything that is unclear please call George,

Mick or Tim on 020 7241 1111, and they will be happy to clarify everything and make the bookings for you.
